・どうしてOTRでヘルパーをしようと思ったのですか?
Why did you decide to be a helper in OTARU TAP ROOM?

I was looking for a host on Hokkaido as I wanted to see and experience its unique landscapes and wildlife, which I got to do durning a 2 week off break. Otaru seemed like a good place to settle in for that time with its medium size and its interesting glasscraft to experience. OTR looked welcoming and cozy, so I decided to apply there and was glad when I got accepted in.

・空いた時間には何をしていましたか?
What did you do when you had free time?

I started by exploring the city of otaru by walking to different points of interest like Asahi Observation Deck 旭展望台 and taking everything in on my way. The glasworkshop kimglassdesign キムグラスデザイン was an awesome place to get to experience glasblowing and create a truly unique souvenir. I also went to neighboring towns like yoichi and experienced what they had to offer like Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery ニッカウヰスキー 余市蒸溜所 and their guided tour. On rainy/snowy days I spent lots of time practicing mokuhanga 木版画 on my own at home.

Please share your memories in Otaru.

In the 2.5 months of being in otaru during which winter came and truly settled in, I was welcomed into a warm and welcoming place by the amazing staff of taproom, wakana, kotaro and ayano and the current helpers. I was invited in, to spending new years and other nice evenings with them, which will stay with me as memories I will gladly look back to.
I myself got to welcome new helpers in and I also saw a lot of them leave, as I was staying quite long. Work itself was never too exhausting and never a bad experience as even on busy days everyone worked side by side. After work everyone would prepare some lunch and sometimes we would enjoy it alone, sometimes we would have a chat, but it was always a peaceful time.

Say something in the end.

The time I got to spend in otaru was truly unique and one I am already looking back to with positive memories in mind.
Everyone was part of a special experience, which led to OTR and the city of otaru feeling like a place I could call home and would like to come back to hopefully sooner than later ✨
